John McDaniel Jr.

John Riley "Johnny" McDaniel Jr., 80, of 4th Street, Waynesboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, October 17, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny was born February 10, 1929, in Covesville, Virginia, the son of the late John R. Sr. and Mary (Via) McDaniel. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. McDaniel was a veteran of the United States Army, and was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the late D. M. Conner.

In addition to his parents, and immediate family members, Johnny was preceded in death by a special step-grandson, Dustin "Dusty" Parrish.

Left to cherish his memory, is one daughter, Pattie McDaniel and her fiance, Steven Chevalier of Verona; four grandchildren; two stepchildren, Pam Parrish and Doug Leach; three great grandchildren; two special step-grandchildren, Douglas Hughes and Travis Parrish; and a very special friend and caregiver, Cathy Leach, of Crimora. He also leaves behind his former wife, Janet McDaniel; and a special son, Matthew Ray Fisher Sr.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. David Herring and to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for the special care and services they provided to Johnny and his family.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009, in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory, 618 West Main Street with Pastor Melvin Bragg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will include Matthew Ray Fisher Sr., Andy Wells, Matthew Ray Fisher II, Colby Hughes, Doug Leach and George Varner.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends attending the services.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the funeral home, as well as various other times at his residence.
