John McElhinny Obituary

John "Jack" A. McElhinny, 85, of Brookville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Jack was born in Pittsburgh on February 25, 1940. He was the son of the late John L. and Rose Mary (Stinner) McElhinny.

He graduated from Brookville High School in 1961, and continued his education at the Art Institute in Pittsburgh. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves.

As a teenager, Jack worked at the Moonlite Drive-in in Brookville.

Following art school, he relocated to California, where he worked as a sign painter.

Jack returned to Brookville and was employed by the McMurray Printing Company. Soon after that, Jack established his own advertising company, JM Signs, in Brookville, where he maintained a successful business well into his elder years before retiring.

Jack married the love of his life, Bonnie (McCracken) McElhinny on February 11, 1964, in Brookville. They were blessed with three children and 52 years of marriage. Bonnie preceded him in death in 2017.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville, and also a former member of Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville.

Jack loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, archery, aviation, golfing and bowling.

He loved music and once led his family band "Jack and the Band-Aids".

Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He came from a generation that valued a strong work ethic and was extremely proud of his life achievements. He leaves a lasting legacy of dedication and cherished memories for those he loved.

Survivors include a son, George "Pork" (Cathy) McElhinny of Brookville; a daughter, Michele (Sean Reynolds) McElhinny of Brookville; four grandchildren, Anthony C. Schuckers, Jeff McElhinny, Rachael Gardner and Ryan McElhinny; two great-grandchildren, Camden Schuckers and Jack McElhinny; eight sisters, Mildred, Bernadette, Francine, Lucia, Dorothy, Rose, Grace and Eileen; four brothers, Richard, Gerald, Joe and Mark McElhinny; along with numerous nieces, nephews; and his girlfriend. Barb Mackins.

In addition to his parents and wife Bonnie, Jack was preceded in death by a son, J.R. McElhinny; three sisters, Judy, Maria and Martha; two brothers, Elmer and Larry McElhinny.

At the wishes of Jack and his family, there will be no formal services held.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
