John W. McGuire, age 78, of Bloomington, Illinois, passed away on September 4, 2025, at the Willows of Greensburg nursing home in Greensburg, Indiana. John had been diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer in July 2025 and moved to the nursing home to receive hospice care. Born on December 23, 1946, in Washington, Indiana, he was the son of Ivis and Geraldine (Allison) McGuire. After graduating from high school, John joined the United States Air Force in 1966 and proudly served until 1970. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a computer technician for various companies until his retirement. In later years, he was employed in car transport for Avis Rental at the Bloomington, Illinois, Airport, where he enjoyed combining work with his love of driving. In September 2024, he participated in an Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington DC, which he enjoyed immensely. He is survived by his children, Nichole (Chad) Phillips and Scott McGuire; his step-children, Lindsey England and Jason (Julie) Salmon, who remained an important part of his life; and his siblings, Beth (Jim) Moore and Robert (Rosie) McGuire. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emelia Frederick, Nicholas McGuire, Ethan Hall, and Daltyn England; as well as his nieces and nephews. John will also be remembered by his dear friends in Bloomington, Illinois, and beyond. In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. The family requests that any memorial donations be made in his name to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana at www.ourhospice.org/donations.
