John McKeon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Yonkers on Jan. 15, 2024.
John McKeon, 84, passed peacefully at his home in Yonkers, NY on January 14, 2024.
John "Johnnie" was predeceased 12 years ago by his loving wife of 45 years, Louise. He is survived by his daughter Evelyn (Neil), son Brian (Jennifer) and his beloved grandchildren: Emma, Quinn, Gavin, Sara and Ian. He is also survived by his nephew, Mike (who was like a second son), his sister Margaret, dear friend Gretta and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his sisters Lizzie, Betty, Mary, Kathleen and his brother Sonny.
Johnnie was born in Cloonagh, Drumlish, County Longford Ireland. At the age of 21, he immigrated to the United States and landed in New York's Irish Community in the Bronx. While he loved being an American he remained proud of his Longford roots often going back to Ireland to visit his siblings, in-laws and friends. He worked in the city as an MTA bus driver for 23 years and then started a second career in the buildings on Park Avenue for 13 more years before finally retiring.
Johnnie met the love of his life Louise in 1963, while in the Army. Johnnie and Louise were a great team and a had a true partnership, they got married in 1966 and settled down in Yonkers. They whole-heartedly loved each other and enjoyed each other's company. Their love never dimmed and only grew stronger over their 45 years of marriage.
Johnnie was an amazing dad to Evelyn & Brian, he was a dedicated father always going above and beyond, showing up to games, and activities and in their adult lives to their homes to see what needed fixing or just to spend time together.
His absolute greatest love was his grandchildren, Emma, Quinn, Gavin, Sara & Ian, who lovingly called him Papa-Johnnie. He was a fun loving grandpa and enjoyed spending time with them each week, always arriving with Dunkin' Donuts and ready to have good time. He always made them feel special and loved.
Johnnie was easy going and quick witted, sometimes you didn't even know if he was joking or telling the truth. He was light-hearted, kind, welcoming and always found the humor in any situation. Johnnie was very handy and was always happy to help anyone in need. He was a loyal Mets fan, and enjoyed watching the games with family and friends.
Johnnie and Louise enjoyed regular get togethers with their close knit friends, which usually resulted in someone singing one of their favorite songs, My Native Town Drumlish. Their Yonkers home was always filled with family and friends, and was a welcoming place that was always filled with laughter and love.
