John McManus Obituary

John G. McManus, Jr, age 55, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Born on January 11, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, John's sharp wit, fierce loyalty, and one-of-a-kind humor left a mark on everyone who knew him. Though he claimed a humorous disdain for mankind, he would do anything for the people he loved, especially his beloved wife, Melissa, whom he was married to for 18 years. Theirs was a partnership marked by deep love, mutual respect, and the strength of two individuals who loved fiercely while remaining wholly themselves. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, grit, and countless memories. John's true purpose and greatest love was his daughter, Barbara, his North Star. He loved her with a depth that shaped every part of who he was and gave depth and meaning to his life. To Barbara or BLRMY, as he affectionately called her, he would have laid the world at her feet and moved mountains to see her smile. He was endlessly proud of her accomplishments, but even more proud of the person she is. She represents all the best parts of John. John was a proud graduate of Noble and Greenough School and earned his degree from the University of Vermont. He spent his professional life working in finance, where he was known for being unfiltered and candid to the core. John's passions ran deep: he was a die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan, a lifelong lover of heavy metal (especially Van Halen and Motley Crue), and he found joy in sports. John also dedicated time to supporting veterans, quietly volunteering his time and offering genuine respect and camaraderie to those who served-a reflection of his deep values and loyalty. He was blessed with a family of brothers, not by blood but by a lifetime of shared experiences and stories better left untold. John is survived by his wife, Melissa McManus, and his daughter, Barbara L. McManus, whom he adored and proudly coached in all her sports. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara. He was preceded in death by his father, John G. McManus, Sr. John is now with his SRT 8, windows down, his dad riding shotgun, Van Halen blasting on the radio, and his bulldog Charles with his head hanging out the window." A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Manchester, followed by Ekwanok. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manchester VFW in honor of John's commitment to supporting veterans.
