John I. McMillan, III, age 75, a longtime resident of Franklin, KY currently of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on November 2, 2025 at the North Buda St. John's Central Hospital in Budapest, Hungary.
John was born in Kingfisher, OK on November 28, 1949 to John I McMillan, Jr. and Dean Rice McMillan.
In the early 1950's the family moved to Logan County Kentucky to continue to live and work on a generational farm where they did so for 38 years.
John was a 1967 graduate of Franklin Simpson High School and attended Western Kentucky University. He then joined and served honorably in the US Navy and achieved the rank of Boatswain's Mate Third Class. He was chosen to represent the U.S. as a United States Navy Ceremonial Guard and then joined the USS Beaufort for the remainder of his service. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, John worked with his father on their family farm. Subsequently he worked in the agriculture industry for over 40 years and there wasn't a farmer's hand he didn't shake or a wheat field he didn't stop to admire at sunset.
Johnny Mac loved his horses almost as much as he loved his family. Throughout his life and into retirement he could often be found on horseback anywhere from Puerto Rico to the eastern hills of Tennessee exploring God's country with his brother. He could toast a fine glass of bourbon as good as he could stoke a bonfire. If the Kentucky Wildcats were playing, he was watching. When not spending time with his daughters and granddaughters, Johnny could be found with his feet in the sand in Madeira, FL or exploring the world with his wife Wanda. He attended Hillview Heights Baptist Church.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father, John I. McMillan, Jr., mother, Dean Rice McMillan, 2 siblings, Dr. Jerry Allen McMillan (Linda), infant sister Pamela Jo McMillan.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Wanda Moore McMillan of Bowling Green, KY, 3 Daughters, Jessica Evelyn McMillan Stevens (Gary) of Hendersonville, TN, Alison McMillan Johnson (Joe Mark) of Franklin, KY, Johnna Meagan McMillan (Tyler) of Louisville, KY, and 2 siblings, Cindy Beth McMillan Gregory of Franklin, KY and Larry Dean McMillan (Christy) of Jamestown, TN, 4 granddaughters, Sadie Elizabeth Blair, Ila Priestley Blair, Ava Marilyn Stevens, Magnolia Jayne Stevens, 4 nephews, 3 nieces and many friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 with a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green, KY.
