John Glenn "Jack" McNeely, 82, of Armstrong, IL, passed away at 12:58 A.M. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at his home. He was born July 15, 1943, in Danville, IL, the son of Ivan "Ike" and Hylma (Whiteman) McNeely. He married Bonnie M. Hiller on September 5, 1970, in Granville, ND.
He is survived by one daughter, Misti Lee Trzebiatowski (Michael C. Borbash) of Milwaukee, WI; two sons, Jason Andrew McNeely of Penfield, IL and Matthew Austin McNeely (Jamie Patton) of Paxton, IL; five sisters, Sharon Frazier, Myrna Johnson, Maureen Klein (Marty Hambleton), Dana (Dan) Mitola, and Lauren (Tommy) Rutledge; two brothers, Mike (Cathy) McNeely and Tim McNeely; sister-in-law, Patricia McNeely; brother-in-law, Chuck Davis; five grandchildren, Erica S. Zindars (Kevin Warren), Hanna M. Trzebiatowski, Reed R. Trzebiatowski, Amber K. Ellis, and Nautica B. McNeely; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marlene McNeely, Florence Davis, and Nancee Mathews; three brothers, Patrick McNeely, Joe McNeely, and Bill McNeely; and four brothers-in-law, Howard Johnson, Andy Stone, Don Frazier, and Bob Mathews.
Jack graduated from Rankin High School in 1962. He served in the United States Marine Corps in the First Battalion, 9th Marines, also known as "The Walking Dead", during Vietnam. He first worked at Uarco in Watseka, Uniroyal in Joliet, and then Economy Fire and Casualty Co. as a Claim Adjuster. He then worked for Schwan's Ice Cream, sold pastries to grocery stores for Saps Bakery, and worked for Charles Chips Distributor. He later sold first aid and safety products for Zee Medical, then Green Guard First Aid Co., and retired from Getz Fire and Equipment in their First Aid Division. Jack was involved in Veteran Affairs and proudly donated to several charities. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, and playing cards. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and attending family events.
Visitation will be held 4:00 -7:00 P.M. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in East Lynn Cemetery in East Lynn, IL.
