JOHN MCWEENEY Obituary

MCWEENEY, John J. Of Lexington, MA. May 27, 1943 – March 26, 2026 John was the proud son of Irish immigrants, the late Gerard McWeeney and Margaret (Kelley) McWeeney. John is remembered for being a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Beloved husband of Marilyn L. McWeeney (Nugent) for over sixty years. Loving father of John, Jr. and his late wife Margo Gibson of Brooklyn, NY, David and his wife Lori of Medfield, MA, Andrew and his wife Katie of Nashua, NH, and Susan and her husband William Newsham of Acton, MA. Cherished grandfather of Declan and Severine McQueeney, Nora and William Newsham, and Isabel and Teagan McWeeney. John is survived by his sister Margo McWeeney; sisters-in-law, Janet Nugent and Barbara Riley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Gerard McWeeney and his wife Nancy; sister Claire Hogarty and her husband Edward; and sister-in-law Skyp Low. For many years, John was involved in Lexington town government. He was a Town Meeting member for 13 years, served on the Conservation Commission for 4 years, the Board of Assessors for 7 years, and the Zoning Board of Appeals for 20 years. When the Economic Development Advisory Commission was established, John became the chairman, until his illness prevented him from staying on the Board. John was a proud member of the Lexington Minutemen for over 50 years. With the Lexington Minutemen, he celebrated Lexington's historic significance in the start of the American Revolution. He participated in the Patriot's Day Re-enactment annually, until 2024. With the Minutemen, he walked in two presidential inaugural parades, numerous charitable appearances and even traveled to Lexington's sister city Antony, France. Forming lifelong friendships along the way. John was a graduate of Boston College High School, Northeastern University (BS), and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (MBA). He worked as a commercial real estate developer his whole career. Notably with Stop & Shop, Tedeschi Realty, and later as a consultant. He was a longtime member of ICSC and a founder of ADMIRE.
