John Wesley Means

John West Means was born June 5, 1954 to John Henry and Gladys Means in Bay Minette, Alabama. John completed his primary education in the Alabama school systems and upon desiring a better life. John moved to Detroit with his grandmother 1964. John completed and graduated in the Detroit school systems John developed a love for mechanics and would further his education by graduating from the city of Detroit mechanics program, which allowed him to perfect his love for fixing cars and big trucks.

John met and married Janice and from that union Wesley John was born. John continued his mechanic Love working in various gas stations and Dealerships.

Upon the death of Janice, John continue to work and various mechanic shops and continuing to further his expertise transmissions

John met and married Donna Kennedy and from that union five children were born. Darnell, Stacey, Johnetta and Robbie who proceeded him in death.

John became a member New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ under Bishop WA Patterson. John accepted the Lord as his personal savior and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at a revival with Mo Carrie Dockery. Later John and his family joined Greater Emmanuel Institutional COGIC under then Eld J Drew Sheard.

John later met and married Stella Morgan on July 12, 1996. John and Stella were faithful members of gei.

John Means was a trusted Deacon at GEI. John was also a member of the transportation ministry for over 20 years. John loved picking up and bringing the saints to church no matter the weather . John was devoted to this ministry. John and Dea. Leo Burns would be seen coordinated routes, who would take the east side and who would take the west to make sure the saints got to church. It wasn't just limited to GEI but John also took pleasure in taking the saints over the highways to convocations and workers meeting s. John's favorite rider was Mo Lula Pearson, who proclaimed the front seat by the door was hers and anyone sitting in that seat when she got on had to move.

John also took pride in making sure the vans were in good shape to transport the saints. John was known for randomly calling and checking on those that the Lord impressed on him to call.

John was also known for being a man of integrity., a mans man .

Upon the leading of the Lord, Dea and Evg Means moved to Alabama and Jan 29, 2025, joined Fairhope COGIC under Pastor Barry Cody.

There John deepened his commitment to Christ and faithfully served as a Deacon there. He was loved by his new church family.

Saturday, January 17, 2026, God called Dea. John Means from labor to reward.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 29 years Stella Means, his children Wesley, Darnell, Stacey Johnetta Robbie (who proceeded him in death, his bonus sons Calvin and Phillip Morgan. four Sisters- Frances McGlory, Ethel, Viola (Ben) and Sheila French(Abraham) . four brothers, John Sylvester (Denise) of Maryland, Perry Means (Janise) of Maryland , Terry Means (Linda) of Florida and Jerry Means of Alabama . 2 uncles, Lemuel Means (Catherine) and Paris Means.

10 Grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren and so many more that he cherished.

His lifelong friend Bill Finkey who he shared a special bond with.

John's presence will be missed by many!
