John J. Mellace, Jr., of Melrose, passed away at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on November 15, 2022, at the age of 78.
John was born in Boston and raised in Everett. He graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1962. John was retired from the MBTA and a talented jeweler for most of his adult life. He loved traveling, cars and working out at the gym. He was devoted to his family. He had a beautiful bond with his grandchildren, and you could always find him at one of their school or sporting events.
John was the beloved husband of 53 years to Lucille T. (Orlando) Mellace. Loving father of Jonelle Moloney & her husband Michael of Saugus and Arianne French & her husband Bryan of Melrose. Devoted son of the late John J. & Catherine (Napoli) Mellace. Cherished grandfather of Colin, Ryann, Brayden and Jayna. Caring brother of Kathleen Santosuosso & her husband John of Saugus and Kenneth Mellace & his wife Deborah of Abington. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452 or Michael J. Fox foundation, Grand Central Station P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163.
