John R. Metzger

John R. Metzger, 79, of Lewistown, passed away on Tuesday August 9, 2022 at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Lewistown.
Born April 26, 1943 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late John E. and Jean M. (McAllister) Metzger.
John is survived by his loving wife, Rosalyn (Seby) Metzger, whom he married on June 15, 1965; his daughter, Lisa Metzger, of State College; and siblings, William Metzger and wife Josie, of Nevada, Stephen Metzger and wife Lynn, of Virginia, David Metzger, of Harrisburg, James Metzger and wife Terri, of Pittsburgh, and Anne Lloyd and husband Russ, of Nebraska.
He was a member of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lewistown.
John was a graduate of Lewistown Highschool class of 1961, and a graduate of Penn State University, receiving a Master's Degree in Education.
He was a part-time employee at Kish Park, Rubin's Sporting Goods Store and Montgomery Ward. After graduating from college, he served as a teacher within The Mifflin County School District for 40 years, in that time, he served as a class advisor to multiple classes at Kish High School. He served on the Nuvisions Board of Directors, local pageant director for Miss Central Pennsylvania for 45 years, The Burnham Lions Club for 50 years, where he also served as past president, and past president of The Chief Logan Band Boosters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 13, 2022 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 N Dorcas St, Lewistown, PA 17044, with Father Peter Rettig officiating. There will be a viewing held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday August 12, 2022 at King-Barr Funeral Home LLC, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown. There will be an additional viewing held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Interment will take place in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
