JOHN YASUO MIYAMOTO

7/31/1949-11/15/2025

John Yasuo Miyamoto passed away on November 15, 2025, at his home in Camarillo, California, surrounded by his immediate family.

John was born on July 31, 1949, in Glendale, Arizona, to Harry and Michi Miyamoto. In 1951, his family moved to Oxnard, where he grew up before eventually settling in Camarillo to raise his own family.

During his years at Hueneme High School, John discovered a lifelong love of sports. He became the starting varsity quarterback during his senior year while also playing on the varsity basketball team. His passion for athletics continued throughout his life, whether playing basketball, softball, or tennis in leagues and recreationally, or cheering on his favorite teams – the Dodgers and Lakers. John also enjoyed playing poker, a pastime he shared with friends and family.

After high school, John began working on base at Point Mugu, where he met Joan, who would become his wife in 1974. He went on to build a distinguished 45-year career at CalCel Marketing, retiring as Chief Financial Officer. While balancing work and family, John earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from LaVerne University in 1984.

John was known for his quiet, humble, and steady nature. He had a gentle strength and kindness that made him genuinely liked by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Amy and Greg; his grandchildren, Austen and Kamryne; and his siblings: Margaret (Hosaki), Harriet (Robert Hiji), Ken (Karen), Paul (Sharon), Al, Sue (Gary Nakamura), Fumi (Steve Nishimori), and Joyce (David Schoonmaker). He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Michi, and his brother-in-law, Jim.

A memorial service will be held at the Oxnard Buddhist Temple on Saturday November 29, 2025, at 4:00pm.

Arrangements are under the direction o f the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
