John Moore Obituary

John Wiley Moore was called home to be with his Savior on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Born September 6, 1956, and adopted at birth by Bill and Margie Moore, John was raised as an only child in Donaldsonville, Georgia. In high school, John was on the golf team and captain of the debate team. A lover of learning, John excelled in academics and was the first (with another student) from Seminole County High School to be selected for the Governor’s Honors Program in High School. It was at Governor’s Honors where John attended a Navigators event and clearly heard the gospel for the first time. From there, John committed his life to Christ. His zeal for the Lord and His Word was palpable. John began memorizing scripture and had a burden to disciple others.

After finishing high school at the top of his class, John went on to Auburn University on an ROTC scholarship. While at Auburn, John’s faith flourished and he was active in mission work in the Caribbean. After graduating from Auburn in 1978 with a major in German and a minor in French, John joined the Air Force and was transferred to Mather Air Force Base in California. It was there that John met and married Janie Rasmussen. Not long later they moved to Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, where they stayed for most of the rest of John’s service (minus a year at Blytheville, Arkansas) until he retired from active duty in 1985. John got his master’s degree in logistics management in 1992 and went on to work as a civilian for the Air Force Reserve Headquarters, where he retired in 2018. During his tenure working for the Reserves, John received numerous accolades. But it is not those things that John would want to be remembered for; he would want to be remembered for pointing others to Christ.

John and Janie raised four children and were involved in their local chapel until the end. John preached regularly, taught Bible studies, discipled others, and sung until he had no singing voice. In the last years of his life, John fought Parkinson’s disease, which robbed him of many of the things he had loved to do. Through it all, John never once questioned God’s plan for him, quietly accepting that God was still in charge.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Janie, his daughter Rachel (Greg), his sons Daniel (Erin), Andrew (Emily), and Joseph (Bethany), and 17 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Three Oaks Bible Chapel in Macon. Burial will be private.
