Theresa Matthews, a beacon of love and adventure, passed away surrounded by her cherished family. Her journey on this earth was marked by selflessness, a deep commitment to her loved ones, and an unwavering Christian faith. Theresa's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of exploration
Born to Wanda Faye Hamm and the late Willie Howard Hamm, Theresa was a native of Citra, Florida, where she completed her education at North Marion High School. Her thirst for knowledge and her passion for helping others led her to attend Auburn University, where she studied emergency medicine, a field that reflected her innate desire to care for those in need.
Theresa began her professional life as a Vet Tech, first in Florida and then in Alabama, where her love for animals shone brightly. She later transitioned to a role as a customer service representative for Madix, dedicating 12 years to serving others with her characteristic warmth and empathy. Her organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail were further showcased during her 13 years as a secretary for MKM Electric, where she was not only an employee but a pillar of support and a friend to many
Throughout her life, Theresa's Christian faith guided her every step. It was the compass by which she navigated life's challenges and the source of her boundless compassion. Her family was the center of her universe, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Her husband, Michael K. Matthews of
Alexander City, AL, was her partner in every sense, sharing countless adventures and moments of joy. Her children, Justina M. Jenkins, Breanna V. (Kreig) Marbury, Timothy H. (Abbie) Jones, and Michael Adam Matthews, were the pride of her life, and she instilled in them the values of kindness and courage. Her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were the light of her world, and she reveled in every opportunity to be with them.
Theresa's love extended to her siblings, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She is survived by her devoted mother, Wanda Faye Hamm, her loving sister, her three caring brothers, and her respected mother-in-law, Dorothy H. Matthews. Each family member carries a piece of Theresa's spirit, a gentle reminder of her nurturing presence.
An adventurous soul, Theresa found joy in the great outdoors. She loved camping under the stars, traveling to new destinations, riding motorcycles with the wind in her hair, and fishing in the quiet of nature. Her spirit was most alive when she was surrounded by the beauty of the world, a beauty that she mirrored in her actions and her approach to life.
To say Theresa was loving is an understatement; she was the embodiment of love itself. Her selflessness knew no bounds, and her adventurous spirit inspired all who knew her. She approached life with a sense of wonder and embraced every moment with grace and gratitude.
As we bid farewell to Theresa Matthews, we celebrate a life rich in experiences and overflowing with love. Her memory will continue to guide and uplift us, just as the stars guide a traveler on their journey.
