John A. Morandi, 93 of Elmsford, New York passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024. Born on December 17, 1930 in The Bronx, New York, he was the son of Adele Badarraca and Angelo Morandi.
John was a longtime resident of Elmsford, New York after marrying his beautiful wife of 66 years, Joan Iadarola (pre-deceased). Together they raised 7 children: Laura DiBenedetto, Eric Morandi, Joel Morandi (pre-deceased), Dr. Gail Fennell, David Morandi, Monica Liman and William Morandi. Additionally, they fostered countless children for the Cardinal McCloskey Home.
John served in the United States Army reaching the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in November of 1953. He went on to be a printer by trade until he assumed the role of Forman for the Elmsford Public School District until his retirement in 2002. John enjoyed using his hands for construction and automotive repairs. He was a self taught guitarist and harmonica player. He loved bicycling and boating and was happiest when he was near the ocean. John was a very active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and was it’s 1972 Parish Man of the Year.
John is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Desiderio, Amanda Ferguson, Nicole Morandi, Cody Morandi, Ryan, Kevin and Bradley Fennell and Jay Liman and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily Ferguson, Remi and Rhys Cueto and Christopher Desiderio.
Visitation will be held at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in Elmsford, NY on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 4 pm to 8pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Elmsford, NY. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY.
John was a passionate animal lover who rescued and fostered cats, dogs and birds, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Paw’s Crossed Animal Rescue in Elmsford, NY.
