JOHN MORENO Obituary

JOHN C. MORENO JR.

Nov. 24, 1938 – Nov. 30, 2024

Christ gained a great worker when John C. Moreno Jr. went to heaven after a long and courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease. John joined the stars in heaven on November 30, 2024, in El Centro, CA., 6 days after celebrating his 86th birthday. Services for John will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 153 East Brighton Ave., El Centro. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m., rosary from 10 to 11 a.m., and mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1290 Gillette Rd. El Centro.

Nothing put a bigger smile on John's face than to be surrounded by his family, which he was on his birthday and the day of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lupe; his children, Pat Maruca, Sylvia (Mike) Quintanar, Irma Moreno, Barbara (Scott) Mejia, and Lupita (Joel) Perez; and his sons, John III (Lupita), Vincent, Christopher, and Ernest; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Rosemary (Manuel) Wimer, Cecilia Toledo, and Andrew (Delma) Moreno, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lupe Moreno Sr.; son-in-law, Joe Maruca; and infant grandson, Danny Silva Jr.

John attended Washington Elementary School, Wilson Jr. High, and Central Union High School. He enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army shortly after high school. Upon his honorable discharge in 1957, he returned to El Centro, where he learned and excelled in various skilled trades, leading to work as a licensed painter, journeyman plumber, union electrician, and concrete mason. He took great pride in his work and was highly praised by his employers and local contractors. In 1983, John's many skills and excellent reputation led to his attainment of a position with the El Centro Elementary School District, where he served as a proud, highly valued, and well-respected employee for 21 years. He initially started as a Skilled Tradesman and was later promoted to the position of Supervisor of Grounds and Maintenance.

Upon retiring from the El Centro Elementary School District in 2004, John dedicated his time to the two joys of his life - his grandchildren and his garden. He cared for and nurtured both with great love, excellent care, and complete dedication and devotion. The fruits of his labor live on as his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's name to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Building Fund. https://give.cornerstone.cc/ourladyofguadalupeparish.
