John Moriarty Obituary

John Patrick Moriarty, age 90, retired Deputy Chief of the Holyoke Fire Department, passed away at home on October 18, 2016. A lifelong resident of Holyoke, John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy as a submariner from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Entemedor and the USS Threadfin. He joined the Holyoke Fire department in 1960 and served proudly until his retirement in 1989 as Deputy Chief. He loved local history, travel, geo-cashing and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife Rose Leblanc Moriarty in 1993 and leaves behind his best friend and companion, Grace Tubbs of Holyoke, his daughter Karen Eichsteadt and friend Nancy of Hampton, CT, his son Robert Moriarty of Canterbury, CT, his daughter Roseleen Dupre and husband Daniel of Chicopee, and his daughter Catherine Day and husband Donald of Westfield. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Billy Dupre and his wife Erica of Ludlow, Bryan Dupre of Boston and Brendan and Ashley Day of Westfield. He was recently blessed with the arrival of his first great granddaughter Riley Dupre. A funeral home service will be held Friday at 10:00am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice LifeCare, 575 Beech St. Holyoke, MA 01040, in his memory.
