John Moseman Obituary

After a lengthy and amazing battle with an incurable disease, John Lloyd Moseman passed away, at his home in Grand Junction, on February 20, 2026, at the age of 74.

John was born on November 2, 1951, in Sidney Nebraska to Leonard John Moseman and Kathryn Louise Moseman. John’s father passed in a plane crash when John was 25, and his younger brother, Don, was 13. John and his wife Anita stepped in to help raise and mentor Don. John was devoted to taking care of his entire family, whenever he was needed.

John spent much of his childhood years in Nebraska and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran school. His family moved to Libby, MT when he was in grade school. That is where John met his soul mate, Anita Kathman. They were joined in marriage on June 2, 1972, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Libby and were married for over 53 years. They were blessed with three children, Tevis John, John Leonard, and Jennifer Christine. After Jennifer married Grant Shahan, they were blessed again with two incredible grandsons, Parker and Preston.

In 1973, John and Anita moved to Delta, Colorado, where all of their children were born and the family were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

John and Anita moved to Grand Junction in 1983 and became members of Lutheran Church and School of Messiah, where their children and their two grandsons attended school.

At Messiah, John served on the Board of Trustees, as an Elder and as Congregational President of the church. When the church was destroyed by arson in the late 80’s, John served as co-chair of the rebuild committee and felt that he was called by the Lord to help rebuild their church. John devoted over a year to that project, serving on different committees and volunteering his time (over eight hours a day, every day of the week until the dedication service), working with the general contractor, subcontractors and the city on every aspect of the construction project.

When a stain glass window was commissioned for the sanctuary of Messiah, a committee, consisting of John, Virginia Rennels and Steve Fenske was formed. They traveled to Denver to consult with an artist. The committee determined to use Christ’s baptism as the focus of this beautiful window and it was designed after Matthew 3:16. The artist asked if John wanted to select a chip of glass to be placed in the window and he chose a red chip to be placed under the descending dove to illustrate God bestowing His power to His Son, which will always be a memory of John.

John served in the affordable housing industry for over 40 years, developing, owning and managing affordable housing properties and training others in the industry. He served on numerous boards advocating and supporting affordable housing in many states.
