Joyce Funeral Home - WalthamJohn R. “Jack” Murphy, Jr., 86, of Framingham, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Saint Patrick’s Manor in Framingham.
Born on December 24, 1938, in Waltham, Jack was the beloved son of the late John and Mary (McDermott) Murphy. Raised in Waltham, he was a graduate of Waltham High School and after that Jack served with the United States Marine Corps.
After his military service, Jack dedicated several years to protecting the community as a Waltham Firefighter. After that he pursued his entrepreneurial spirit as the longtime owner of Michael J’s on Prospect Street in Waltham. His affable personality and quick wit earned him many friends.
Jack had a passion for all things military, including ships, air shows, and military heroes. He was an avid boxing enthusiast and cherished reminiscing about his upbringing in Waltham, his parents, and his siblings. He treasured time spent with friends at the Sons of Italy in Waltham, Michael J’s, and other local establishments.
A devoted family man, Jack delighted in gatherings with loved ones, especially his three adored grandsons. Jack was also a fan of classic movies and television programs, enjoyed making improvements to his home, and generously volunteered his time driving veterans to medical appointments.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy (Wood) Murphy; his sons, Michael J. Murphy and his wife, Angela, of Sudbury, and Timothy J. Murphy of Framingham; his cherished grandsons, Mason Murphy, Parker Murphy, and Weston Murphy; his siblings, Patricia Reid of Plymouth, Mary Murphy, Paul Murphy, and Margaret Murphy, all of Waltham and many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his siblings Jeanne O’Neill, Bernard Murphy, James Murphy, LCPL Michael Murphy, USMC, and Robert Murphy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jack’s life by gathering for an evening wake in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
