John D Murray

John D. Murray, 84, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Anchor Post-Acute in Aiken, South Carolina. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia (Barzydlo) Murray, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 25, 1940, he was the son of the late William J. and Florence (Olgesson) Murray. John was also preceded in death by his two older brothers, William "Pinky" and George Murray.
John worked for the family business, Murray Ambulance Company in New Haven, Connecticut for many years. He later relocated his family to the Poconos in 1976 to start a job with Roadway Express, in Tannersville, PA. He later transferred to Buffalo, NY where he retired from Roadway. He was a very proud member of the Teamsters Local Union 229 and Local Union 449.
Some of his favorite pastimes were Nascar races with the family, picking weeds in the garden, finding the best diners when he was trucking, listening to the news and reading the paper. You could always find him near a scanner listening to what was happening with the local first responders. He loved to talk about growing up on the farm and how he never liked candy because he was always eating fruits and vegetables picked straight from the garden.
John leaves behind his children, Lisa McAdam and her husband, Timothy of Mildred; Lori McMaster and her husband, Richard of Stroudsburg; John "Jay" Murray and his wife, Lisa of Windsor, SC; Linda Carey and her husband, Daniel of Mountainhome; Michelle Dewitsky and her husband, Mark of Windsor, SC; and Walter Murray of Pocono Summit; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way.
A graveside service will be held at Keokee Chapel Cemetery, Paradise Valley on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11 a.m.
