John Murray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Logan Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Dec. 17, 2025.
John F. Murray, affectionately known as "Popeye" to those who knew him best, passed away peacefully on the 16th of December, 2025, in his native city of Philadelphia, PA. Born on January 5, 1947, in the same historic city, John's journey came full circle as he departed this world surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
John was a devoted son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Murray and grew up in a bustling household as one of thirteen siblings. His early life was filled with the lively dynamics that only a large family can provide, setting the stage for his own future as a family man. John's love story began with Geraldine (nee Mabie) Murray, his cherished wife of 55 years, who was his rock and joy throughout a lifetime of shared memories.
Loving father of John (Kim), Fran (Beth), Stacy (John), and Paul (Danielle), he instilled in them the values of kindness, humor, and love, which they have passed down to their own families. As a doting grandfather of thirteen grandchildren and a great-grandfather of a great-grandson, John's playful spirit and endless capacity for love knew no bounds.
John's work ethic was as strong as his love for his family. He was a longtime employee of Schmidt's Brewery, where he was known for his dedication and camaraderie. Later, he brought his talents to 1500 Locust Apartments, contributing to the community with his hands and heart. His colleagues remember him as a man who could lighten any workload with his humor and thoughtfulness.
A man of faith, John's Christian beliefs guided him through life's trials and triumphs. He found comfort and strength in his religion, which was a cornerstone of his existence and an integral part of the example he set for others.
Popeye's interests were a reflection of his character. He loved watching his weekly wrestling matches, a pastime that brought excitement and joy into his life. It was during these moments that his family saw the childlike wonder that never left him, a testament to his ability to find happiness in the simple things.
John F. Murray's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the importance of family. His life was a beacon of how to care deeply, laugh heartily, and cherish those around you. As we bid farewell to Popeye, we hold tight to the precious memories he has given us, knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him.
