John Murray Sr.

John Murray, Sr. age 76, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. He was born in Fort Lewis, Washington and resided in Akron, Ohio.

John proudly served in the United States Army and retired after 22 years of service. He was a proud Vietnam veteran who served two tours in the war. After his service, he pursued his passion for culinary arts for over two decades at Akron General Hospital as the Executive Chef.

A devoted husband and father, John shared 46 years of marriage with his wife Christine. He was loved by his four daughters Beth (Dave), Tabitha (Dave), Jennifer (Brandon), Theresa (Ronnie), and son John. He was also a proud grandfather to Ronnie, Leila, William, Meah, Koa, and Tiyanna. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

John is also survived by his brother Hickey (Ann-Marie) and sister Annie. He was predeceased by his parents Hickey and Michiko Murray and brothers Jimmy and Jackie.

John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, ping pong, and vacationing with his family.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal brother, and friend to many.

May John’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him deeply.

Memorial service for John will take place at 1:00 PM on FRIDAY, March 13, 2026, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333. Friends and family are invited to calling hours from 11:00 AM until the start of the service. Inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors. A Celebration of Life will take place following the inurnment, at Chapel 2929, 2929 East Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. Akron, OH 44312.
