John Necker Obituary

John Leslie Necker, Sr
August 11, 1941 - March 29, 2025
John Leslie Necker, Sr, age 83, returned to the Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2025. John was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 11, 1941, to Leslie Necker and Thelma Wiemers Necker. John attended Mount Sacred Heart School and Central Catholic High School, class of '59, where he was a member of the Bordelon Rifle Team. He also attended Saint Mary's University and UTSA and served in the National Guard for six years. John married his first love Linda Avey in 1961, raising three children in San Antonio and moved to Boerne in 1984. John was a big Texas Longhorn fan, and he loved the nature that Boerne provided: hosting parties at the River House, feeding the deer and peacocks, and building birdhouses with his son. John retired from USAA after 30 years, but John and Linda's adventures would continue. With their hosting nature, they owned and operated The Cabaret Restaurant Dance Hall in Bandera from 1993-1996, and then opened The Back Porch Restaurant in Boerne, which offered amazing bar-be-que until its closing in 2007. After a lingering illness, Linda passed away in January of 2009.
John was blessed with a second love, Carolyn Parkhurst. John and Carolyn married in 2015, and they have been hand-in-hand ever since. They shared a love of animals, especially birds and dogs, and attended Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. John would often offer that Carolyn could make the cake for the next family gathering, each time she agreed, and they would arrive with multiple cakes, both sophisticated and delicious.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Necker, his parents, his aunts Lucille and Helen Margaret Wiemers, his sisters Rosemary Tips (Jimmy) and Marjorie Petri (Max), and brother-in-law Tom Knodell, Sr. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Parkhurst Necker; children, Debora Lynn Jones, Brenda Sue Taglieri (Carmine), and John Leslie Necker, Jr.; grandchildren, Derek Klumpp and Grace Necker; his sister, Dorothy Knodell; stepdaughters, Renee Johnson (Tommy), Paige Proffitt (Paul) and Erin Hudson (Kent); step-grandchildren, Charley Johnson, Colton and Peyton Davidson, and Andrew, Hannah, and Hayden Proffitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was a good man that cherished family above all. He was a husband, father, grandfather, a little brother and "Uncle Johnny". His love, good nature and quick smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will begin on Monday, April 7, 2025, 5:00 pm, with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm at Puente & Sons, 14315 Judson Road, San Antonio, Texas 78233. A funeral mass is offered on April 8, 2025, 11:30 am, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78216, preceded by 11:00 am visitation. Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
