John Nelson Obituary
John S Nelson
Born: June 15, 1947 in Belvidere, IL
Died: April 14, 2025 in Hebron, IL
John S Nelson peacefully passed into his eternal home at the age of 77. Lifelong resident of Hebron, IL. Born in Belvidere, IL. John was born to the late Raymond and Lena (John) Nelson. He attended Alden-Hebron Schools. Class of 1965. He then enlisted in the U.S Air Force, served as an engine airplane mechanic from 1966-1970.
John was married to the love of his life Suzanne (Wallace) for 47 years. They built their home on farmland in the country. No other way with John loving the land and being a farm kid. Joining in their dream of construction, their forever home, good friends, two small children, picking out field stone for their fireplace was special. Long hours with the labor of love to call our home to this day. Memories.
John is survived by his wife, Sue, his children, Shannon, Jason (Stephanie), and Amber Nelson. His grandchildren, Tommy, Arianna, Briana, Hayden, Hunter, Danny, Lilliana, and Juliana. His sister in law Caroline Nelson.
John was also a member of the Hebron American Legion Post 606 for 52 years. Moose Lodge 1289, Harvard, IL, life member for 52 years. John was also a volunteer for the Hebron Fire Dept.
Besides coaching little league baseball games, Stateline Raiders Jr. Tackle football board, John and Sue drove many hours enjoying and supporting their kids, grandkids, and teammates right up to the last basketball game for his grandsons.
In his younger years, his classmates remember those days of him loving his scooters, finally graduating to his 2003 Harley. He loved singing and playing guitar. He loved folk and country songs. He spent some time working in the past at Vaughn & Bushnell, Peet Freight Line, Hebron Disposal Service, Walters Farms, and Hebron Township. He filled his employment working for Residential Development Group, Crystal Lake, IL. He was a home construction laborer belonging to Local Union 1035 for 30 years until the housing took a turn for the worst. Not too happy about retiring due to being a hard working man, but kept working for previous jobs. It didn't take to long. WOW!
He met some new friends that loved what he did, hunting and fishing. Retirement wasn't so bad after all. (Well deserved)
John and Sue have made so many memories from weekend getaways, long road trips, cruises, and just chillin' on the deck. John cared for his long time friends, and co-workers. He was also known to give a helping hand, but not thinking of a return. Many of us will remember how much he loved nature. He would sit in a quiet field for hours waiting for that Big Buck to appear, or patiently sitting in that boat at sunrise for the Big Bass to bite. About two months before his passing , he would drive to Mchenry Dam , finding peace within to wait for the eagle to soar for her nest.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Hoop's in Hebron, IL from 1-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor John, donations can be made to the Hebron Rescue Squad or Alden- Hebron Athletic Dept.
