John Earl Newland, born on April 28, 1937, in Ashland City, TN, passed away on November 1, 2024, at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN. His life was characterized by dedication, service, and a love for family.
A Vietnam veteran, who retired with more than 20 years of service with the United States Air Force, while contributing to the maintenance of multiple aircrafts, including the SR-71. Throughout his military career, he was stationed at notable bases including Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS, Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, CA, and Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, MS. His commitment to service extended beyond the military as he worked for the State of Tennessee Department of Corrections and was a member of the T.C.A.T special divisions. John was not only dedicated to his career but also cherished his family deeply. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his regimented and structured approach to life. A mechanically inclined individual, he was passionate about his work and his family.
He is survived by his sons, Robert E. (Anna) Newland and Kevin S. (Becky) Newland, and stepdaughter, Susan (Tim) Aldrich; grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Knox, John Daniel (Kayla) Newland, Elizabeth Newland, Michael Newland, Jacob Newland, and Abigail Newland, and great-grandchildren, Aubrey Knox, Kimberly Knox, Malachi Newland, and Mackenzie Newland.
John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlene Newland; stepson, Victor MacDonald; parents, Robert B. and Ethel Lee (Reeves) Newland; and siblings, Mabel L. Newland, Bertha Newland (Chandler), James R. Newland, Ellie Mae Newland, Garth M. Newland, Maxine Newland, Delmous Newland, Uldean Newland, Lillard (Tex) Newland, Bruce Newland, Deliah "Dell" Newland, Mary Eller Newland, and Herman H. Newland.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral service hour at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Boyd Funeral Home. Pastor Corey Minter will be officiating. Interment will follow in Newland Cemetery in Ashland City, TN.
