John Nimeskern Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frederick Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
John Roy Nimeskern, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on August 30, 1925, in St. Bernard, Ohio to the late Bernard and Agnus (nee Helmkamp) Nimeskern and spent his life nurturing a deep love for his family and community.

John was happily married to his devoted wife, Irene R. (nee Eilers) Nimeskern, for an incredible 74 years. Together they shared a life rich with love, laughter, and faith, embodying the true meaning of partnership. John is survived by his children, Deborah (Bob) Gandenberger, John (Theresa) Nimeskern, Arthur (Janice) Nimeskern, and Raymond (Valerie) Nimeskern, who will forever carry his legacy in their hearts.

As a proud grandfather, John adored his grandchildren-Carrie (Brian) Randall, Robert (Melissa) Gandenberger, Nicholas (Andrea) Nimeskern, Zachary (Sarah) Nimeskern, James Gandenberger, Joshua (Elizabeth) Nimeskern, Benjamin Nimeskern, Natalie (Timothy) Ueker, and Heather (Jason) LaFleur-and was also a doting great-grandfather to Gabrielle, Brody, Karlee, Beckman, Reed, Molly, Pennie, Hailey, Thomas, Samuel, Charles, Landon, and Peyton. His unwavering support and enthusiastic presence at every family event made him the ultimate cheerleader, ensuring that his love always shone brightly in their lives.

John is preceded in death by his siblings, Aelred Nimeskern, Urban Nimeskern, Bernard Nimeskern, and Mary Grace Whitehouse.

John was a dedicated member of Little Flower Church for over 64 years, where he demonstrated his strong faith through active involvement in numerous church activities, including serving in Dad groups, working festivals, serving many masses and caring for the church grounds. His commitment to service extended beyond the church, reflecting his proud history as a World War II veteran in the Navy. John was a fiercely patriotic man who proudly displayed the American flag at his home each day.

John and Irene shared many joyful moments, from dancing the jitterbug to attending local concerts with family and friends. His warmth and charisma lit up every room he entered, leaving lasting memories filled with laughter and joy.

Funeral services will be held to honor John's remarkable life. Visitation will take place at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Rd., on Monday, April 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Little Flower Church, 5560 Kirby Ave., on Tuesday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, John's family kindly requests memorial donations be made in his honor to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 860 Dolwick Dr., Erlanger, KY 41018, celebrating John's service and unwavering love for his country.
