John Nolte Obituary

John A. Nolte, age 80 of Oshkosh, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, March 14 with his loving wife by his side. John was born on September 12, 1944, to the late Charles Nolte and Doris (Albrecht) Nolte. The youngest of two sons, John spent his younger years roller skating at the Westward Ho, riding his horse to school, and helping milk cows on the family farm. He fell in love and married Christne Rasmussen on November 12, 1966. Together they had two children, John Jr. and Stacey.

John was dedicated to his work and began his early career working for his brother Bill's service station, Nolte's Northside Standard. John was also a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, 1157th transportation company. In 1980, he joined the Oshkosh City Police Department where he held positions as a training officer, a hostage negotiator and a member of the Honor Guard. As often was told to his family, as a police officer, John never passed judgement on anyone he encountered. Instead, he installed a sense of self-worth and a helping hand to those in need. After his retirement from the Oshkosh Police Department in 2001, John drove for City Disposal in Appleton.

Through the years, John enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling with his family across multiple states. He loved to travel with Chris to casinos across Wisconsin and Las Vegas but mostly cherished the time spent with his wife, children and granddaughters.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Chris, his son, John Jr., daughter Stacey (Scott) Ryback, and three granddaughters, Sydney Ryback (Tristen), Samantha Ryback and Mackenzie Nolte; as well as his sister-in-law, Judy Nolte and favorite aunt, Helen Getchel.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Bill, his father and mother-in- law, Kenneth and Eleanor Rasmussen, his brother and sister-in-laws, Noel and Jean Rasmussen, Ronald and Barbara Rasmussen, Jim and Linda Rasmussen, his nephew Vince Rasmussen, and countless close relatives and friends.

A visitation for John will be held at St Raphael's Catholic Church from 9:30-11am on Thursday, March 20 until the time of service at 11:00am. A private burial will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oshkosh Police Department or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Until we see you again, we will miss you always "Poppi".
