John was one of the most important influences on my life. I had the pleasure of being in his culinary program at Blue Hills for 4 years in the late 90's and early 00's.
I fondly remember Mr. O, as we called him, being the sweetest, gentlest man. And he knew his subject, and was loaded with lots of facts and tips, many of which i still use today such as "the pan is ready to saute when it talks back to you".
When I returned to Blue Hills in 2011 as a teacher in the program that he had just retired from a few years before, I leaned heavily on what i remembered about his class and tried my best to emulate him. I even literally pulled lessons from my old tech class notebook when I was really stumped on what to do. It meant a lot to me that he was able to come in for lunch a few times with Ms. K before his health took a turn and see me in action in his old classroom. I'm proud to carry on his legacy teaching the dining room like he did for so many years.
He was a very special man and he will be fondly remembered.

I have happy memories from working with John at Blue Hills Regional Technical School. I´ll always remember our attempt to climb Mt Washington.

John was a sweet man, whom I first met at a Toastmaster´s Club meeting many years ago. I was a nervous newbie and he was a long-time member whose talks were so entertaining, and I hoped someday to be as engaging and interesting as he. He was so very encouraging and wrote very charitable critiques of my talks. I bumped into him again a short time later at church in Sharon, where he became such a vibrant member right away, active in many events. Later, visiting him at his home, he shared many stories about his years as a veteran and never ceased to amuse my husband and myself. So grateful to call John a wonderful friend.
