With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Lewis Oliver on March 31, 2025, at the age of 88. John was a devoted family man, a self-made entrepreneur, and a true force of nature whose unwavering work ethic and determination left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on November 19, 1936, John moved to California in 1963, where he founded Helimed, a helicopter company, before turning his passion for motorcycles into a thriving business. He went on to establish Custom Cycles Delight, which became the largest custom motorcycle shop on the West Coast. After years of success, he sold his company and returned to Chattanooga, where he launched Star Properties with his late daughter, Debbie Oliver-Attarha, as his business partner, continuing his legacy of entrepreneurship and business excellence.
John was a man of vision, innovation, and relentless determination. A proud Freemason and a Merchant Marine, he lived a life of service, discipline, and camaraderie. He believed in hard work, pushing boundaries, and always striving for something greater. His dedication to providing for his family and uplifting those around him was unmatched.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Joyce Faye Oliver, whose love and support were the foundation of his success. He is also survived by his grandson, Dr. Barrett Attarha; his brothers, Gary Oliver and Dewey Oliver; and his sisters, Pat Hagrove and Mary Wirchball. His legacy lives on through his family and all those he mentored and inspired. He taught us what it means to be strong, to persevere, and to chase our dreams with everything we have. His impact will never be forgotten.
