John Olson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Summit Funeral & Cremation on Mar. 11, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dad, John William Olson of St. Paul, Minnesota, on March 3, 2026.

John was someone who could light up any room. Most people would describe him as charismatic and charming. The fun guy. If you knew John, you remember the excitement in his voice whenever he greeted you - whether in person or on the phone.

He loved sports and rarely missed watching the Vikings, Twins, Wolves, or Wild. If none of them were playing, you might find him watching golf. Music was also a big part of his life, and he spent many years playing the drums, including time with the band Slippery Steve and the Satellites.

He grew up in a big family and carried that love of family throughout his life. Together with his former wife, Cindy, he raised their three children and built many family memories. He was incredibly proud of his kids and grandchildren and loved telling stories about their accomplishments. Some of our best memories are of him keeping us active outside on the family farm, playing football or baseball in the yard, usually with Sadie the family dog chasing after balls.

In his later years, John faced personal struggles, and while those years were not always easy, his family finds comfort knowing he is now at peace. Even in his hardest times, his family never doubted how much he loved them.

He is survived by his children Jake Olson (Courtney), Jessica Kilpatrick, and Joe Olson (Amber); grandchildren Alex Kilpatrick (Hanna), Haylee Kilpatrick, Makayla Olson, Joshua Kilpatrick, and Kashton Olson; and great-grandson Archer Kilpatrick. He is also survived by his siblings Mark Olson, Sarah McKenzie (Mark), Cindy Krenzel (Joel), Melissa Eichers, Mandy Ewest (Joe), and Tony Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Colleen Olson, and his siblings Jennifer and Dominic.

His charm, charisma, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.

We love you, Dad.
