John Palm Obituary
September 8, 1941 - September 18, 2025
John ("Jack") Andrew Palm, Jr., 84, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at Westminster-Canterbury.
He was born Sept. 8, 1941, and grew up in the Albany/Schenectady area in New York. After graduating Penn State University with a degree in history in 1963, Jack began a long career with the federal government and SAIC in Northern Virginia. He served in Vietnam while his family lived in Taiwan from 1967 to 1969. Following that, the family moved back to Northern Virginia and ultimately settled in Warrenton in 1973. Later, Jack and Joyce moved to Amissville, where they lived for nearly 20 years before moving to Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury in 2020.
Jack enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, tennis, and world travel. He was a well-loved member of the community, and over the years was actively involved in the PTA, conservation efforts, Habitat for Humanity, and other volunteer projects.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son John Andrew Palm III (Nancy); daughter Kristin Palm Jones (Richard); grandchildren Sophie, Katie, Emily, and Thomas Jones; sister the Rev. Janice W. Palm; and brother Rich Palm.
In addition to his parents John Andrew Palm, Sr. and Grace Adams Palm, Jack is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Carter W. Eltzroth and sister-in-law, Marion Palm.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held Friday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, 300 Westminster-Canterbury Dr., Winchester VA, 22603 in the Abbey.

Jack was a regular for years in our tennis group at Chestnut Forks. Always positive and good company, we were sorry when he moved to Winchester. Jack brought humor and broad knowledge to after-tennis group chats. We´ll miss him.
