John Pechulis

John Pechulis, 98, of Hackensack, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and was a Master Mariner for many years while being employed by United States Lines. John was the youngest Captain of the SS America, where he met his future wife, the late Dorothea Pechulis. After leaving the sea in 1968, John worked for Manufacturers Hanover as a Vice President until retiring. John and Dorothea enjoyed many wonderful years in Florida before joining their daughter Marita in Hackensack, NJ. An ardent and devoted Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C Church.

Cherished husband of the late Dorothea Pechulis. Loving father of Marita Pechulis. Treasured brother of Gerald Pechulis. Predeceased by his sister, Maryanna Dragon.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 400 Maywood Avenue, Maywood, NJ. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Magnificat House, 119 Clerk Street, Jersey City.

The family wishes John fair winds and calm seas on his final voyage, where he will meet his beloved wife, Dorothea.
