John L. "Catfish John" Penn, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on August 22, 2024, in Carrollton, Carroll County, Kentucky, at the age of 81. Born on June 7, 1943, in Henry County, John was known for his spirited personality and his adventurous love for life.

John dedicated many years to his work throughout his career, most recently as a Security Guard for the Belterra Casino and Resort. Before this, he spent an impressive 27 years at M & T Chemical Company in Carrollton.

John's vibrant personality will be remembered through the joyful memories he created. He had a unique talent for wrapping Christmas gifts in duct tape, often adding a humorous touch by wrapping fruit as well. His playful spirit extended to pranks that brought laughter to those around him. A lover of the outdoors, he found immense joy in fishing, especially catfish, rabbit hunting, and coon hunting, as well as attending auctions and flea markets with his late wife, Donna, which offered him both adventure and opportunities to connect with others, especially the Amish Community which held dear to their heart. John and his late wife Donna enjoyed many meals over the years on Friday nights, at the former Ponderosa Steak House in Madison.  Most importantly, John cherished the time spent with his family, who were the center of his world.

He is survived by three daughters: Robin (Billy) Childs of Sanders, KY; Charlotte Snow of Carrollton, KY; and Virginia (David) Foster of Jacksonville, FL. Additionally, Shelly (John) Proctor of Carrollton, KY, held a special place in his heart, considered as a daughter. The legacy of love continues through his ten grandchildren: Ashli Childs, Emily Penn, Michael Foster, Steven Foster, Crystal Foster, Victoria Foster, Bobby Snow, II., Corey Snow, Elizabeth Snow, and Jaylin Snow, alongside two great-grandchildren, Dawson Childs and Valentino Espinoza.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Penn and Elizabeth Neville Barley, his wife, Donna Penn, and four sisters: Roberta Deppe, Edna Clark, Alene Proctor, and Geneva Smith. He was also welcomed into eternity by his brother, James Penn.

The visitation to honor John's life will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Following the visitation, the funeral service will commence at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with the Rev. Graham Reynolds officiating the service.

John L. "Catfish John" Penn’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, and his joyful spirit will continue to live on through the memories shared by those who had the privilege to know him.
