John Petru Obituary
John Edward Petru, alias “Johnny 5”, passed away June 16, 2024 in his home after a short battle with cancer, at age 70.
John was born to Edward Emil Petru and Josephine Elizabeth Petru (Boyon) in Omaha, NE on August 16th, 1953.
He graduated from William Jenning Bryan High School in 1972. John then went in to the Army where he served until 1985 as a food service specialist.
Later in 2005, he moved to Dent, MN to be closer to his family. During that time, he carried on his passion for cooking where he was most noted for his talents at Peglegs “Dougout”.
John was known for his carefree yet caring attitude and his long black ponytail. He spent his free time visiting with friends and family. He was known as “Crazy Uncle John” to his nieces and nephews. He could talk to anyone and certainly had a way with words.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Josephine Petru. Surviving John are his two wonderful children, Becky (John) Howell and Jeremiah (Michelle) Conner; three grandchildren; and nineteen nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service in Perham from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m.
