John Petterson Obituary

Evansville, WI - John "Johnny" Petterson of Evansville, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on December 24th 2025. He was born August 13,1944, to Robert "Ole" and Marie Campion Petterson. His childhood was filled with homemade Sunday morning cinnamon rolls, neighborhood hide and seek, and mischief-often involving vehicles-with his brothers, Jamie and Teeter.

Drafted into the Vietnam War in 1965, Johnny returned home a year later and remained a proud veteran throughout his life. He stayed closely connected to the military community, attending funerals, marching in parades, bartending at the V.F.W, helping with Rally in the Alley events, and rarely being seen without his Vietnam veteran hat and jacket.

In 1971, Johnny became a mail carrier, a role he held until retirement. He was well known for his impressive speed, accuracy, and expert knowledge of every street and address in Evansville, paired with a friendly wave or chat. After retirement he continued to travel those same streets- this time from the driver's seat-still greeting familiar faces with a honk and a longer conversation.

A loyal friend and devoted father and grandfather, he showed love through his steady presence and simple acts of kindness. Always ready to help-offering rides, sharing meals, or making thoughtful phone calls-he created cherished family traditions, like Sunday drives, birthday cards by mail, to chocolate malt nights. His absence will be profoundly felt.

Johnny is survived by his two children Stephanie (Garrett) Lindemann and Casey (April) Petterson; grandchildren Carson, Dawson, Landon, and Colson Petterson; former wife, Patti Petterson; sister, Susan Luers; beloved nieces and nephews, and cousins; his chosen family of Kari & Chad Heacox, and countless other close and lifelong relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents; brother and sisters: Ronald "Teeter" Petterson, Robert Petterson, Joanne Dingle, Jeanette Finnane; and James "Jamie" Petterson; a beloved niece, nephews, brother and sister in laws, many dear friends, and his spoiled cat Bartlebee and his dog Snickers.

Visitation will be held January 31st from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Ward-Hurtley Funeral Home, 130 S. 5th St., Evansville, WI.
