John Wesley Pierce

John Wesley Pierce, 88, was born in Carbon Hill, Al, on August 18, 1936, to the late Arthur and Mildred Pierce. He was an exemplary father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He married Hazel Herd Pierce on June 14, 1957, after meeting as pen-pals while he was serving in the army overseas. They set their roots in Tuscaloosa, Al, and were happily married for nearly 67 years.
John co-owned Frame Outlet with Hazel for 33 years and built thousands of picture frames before retiring in 2022. Though, his true talent as a carpenter and contractor is still on display for West Alabama with the many homes he constructed and remodeled. He was known in the community for his strong Christian faith and knowledge of the Bible that he read through many times. He was a builder and member of Cottondale Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school at all levels, served as a deacon, and supported many programs including the founding and building of Tuscaloosa Christian School. One of John's greatest joys was show-casing his wife and her cooking by hosting countless friends, employees, ministers, missionaries, and family for meals. Other hobbies he enjoyed include gardening, reading, fishing, and making and sharing his peanut brittle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, and son, David, four brothers and two sisters. John is survived by his children, Paul Pierce, Jimmy Pierce (Marian), Rebecca Hill (Danny), Tim Pierce (Yvonne), seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; brother. Kenneth Pierce (Linda), sisters-in-law: Grace Pierce, Maxine Pierce, Janice McCoy, Betty Sellers, Barbara Files, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Cottondale Baptist Church on Monday, August 4, 2025, with visitation at 10:00am and service at 11:00am. Interment will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are sons: Paul Pierce, Jimmy Pierce, Tim Pierce, grandchildren: C.J. Powell, Kerry Ellis, and friend: Gordon Walker.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Cottondale Baptist Church, former employees of John Pierce Construction and Frame Outlet, neighbors of Norris Circle, especially Ron and Maxine Johnson, Doug and Sabrina Stephans, and Houston and Shirley Prewitt.
