Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home - SebringObituary for John H. Price, Sr.
John Henry Price, Sr., aged 99, passed into eternity, welcomed by Jesus, his Savior, late in the morning, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born on November 16, 1925, the fourth of six children to Glenn and Rubell Price in Rosinville, SC. John grew up in a Christian family and was influenced in his early years to consider becoming an overseas missionary. World War II slightly interrupted those influences when, at the age of 17, John enlisted with the U. S. Navy. He served as a Hospital Corpsman and was in active service until his honorable discharge in March 1946. John went on to attend Columbia Bible College for one year and Bob Jones University, earning a BA in English, Bible and Teacher Training. He met and married fellow Bob Jones University student, Doris Mae Cooper, on June 2, 1950, and enjoyed over 65 years of marriage with her and welcomed six children into their family. John and his family joined SIM, a missions organization, and moved to Nigeria, Africa, where he spent the bulk of his 21 years of service in education-related roles and responsibilities. The family returned to the U.S. in 1973 and John filled the role of Secretary at the SIM USA office for the next seven years. His next stage in life was filled with various pastoral roles in the Southern Methodist Church, both as the Church Extension Director in Orangeburg, SC and as a Senior Pastor in Monroe, LA. The Prices concluded their ministry career in 1996 and moved to the SIM Retirement Village in Sebring. Even in his retirement, John continued in ministry by serving as a Chaplain with the Florida Department of Corrections for eight years.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, his wife, Doris, and a grandson, Joshua Pifer. He is survived by his sister, Mamie Mills, his six children: John (Neema) Price, Jr., Jean (Jim) Cail, Lila (Dean) Spencer, Alice (Joel) Pifer, Donald (Debbie) Price, Philip (Dawn) Price, as well as 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for John will take place on Saturday, November 15 at 10:00 AM at the SIM Retirement Village Chapel located at 900 Andes Drive in Sebring, FL.
