John Lee Proffitt, age 92 of Dandridge, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of Friday, December 20, 2024.
John was a skilled woodworker. His professional career began and ended with Rugel Church Furnishings, with several years of construction in between. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. John was also a member of Swann’s Chapel Baptist Church, where he once loved singing and playing the guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Proffitt and Ida Proffitt Ray; sisters, Alice Cox, Lillian Massengill, and Mabel, who passed as an infant; and brother, Raymond Proffitt.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Carolyn Lowery Proffitt; special niece and caregiver, Rachael Knowland (Poore), and sister, Ethel Shelton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, for their kind and compassionate care.
The family will receive friends from 4PM to 6PM, Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. A graveside service will take place at 11AM, Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Swann’s Chapel Cemetery, with Pastor Tyler Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Swann’s Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Swann’s Chapel Baptist Church; 1309 Waterfront Drive - Dandridge, TN 37725.
