John Wayne Quaid, born on November 24, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at the age of 61 on July 25, 2025, in Biloxi, Mississippi. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, John’s life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to family and community.
Retiring as a Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy, John dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving his country. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of duty, which he carried into his civilian life as he actively volunteered in various community initiatives.
John was a proud graduate with a Bachelor's degree, reflecting his belief in the importance of education and self-improvement. He had an infectious personality that drew people in; he was known for his fun-loving spirit and favorite sayings, including, “Every day is a good day this side of the grass,” and, “Don’t forget to spoil yourself.” These words exemplified his optimistic outlook on life and his affection for the simple joys.
An avid food enthusiast, John particularly delighted in sweets and had a passion for camping and fishing. His love for nature was complemented by his enthusiasm for rock music, history, and enjoying family gatherings. An ardent weather enthusiast, he not only enjoyed observing meteorological phenomena but also took pleasure in teaching others about it. In his leisure time, John appreciated watching and engaging with various sports, including football, and he enjoyed the camaraderie found in poker, golf, and billiards. His community spirit extended to his involvement in veterans’ organizations, specifically the VFW and PVA.
John's family meant the world to him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Denise Quaid; their three children, Lindsay Quaid, Michael Quaid, and Christy Quaid; his cherished grandson, Cyrus Quaid; and his siblings, James Quaid and Carolyn Bush. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Quaid, along with his siblings, Kristin Anderson, Cathy Soppa, and Jeff Quaid.
A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on August 6, 2025, starting at 2:30 PM. John's legacy of love, optimism, and commitment to family and country will always be remembered by those who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
