John Reamy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parsell Funeral Homes-Atkins-Lodge Chapel - Lewes on Jan. 21, 2026.
John (Jack) Thomas Reamy died on January 18, 2026, after a long illness.

Born April 8, 1940, he was the only son of Claude Reamy and Girlie (née Lumpkins) Reamy. He was raised in Washington, DC, and attended Washington public schools. He served in the United States Army, 4th Armored Division, and was stationed in Germany.

In 1959, he started working at the Library of Congress. He worked there for 37 years, rising to the position of section head in the Library's Cataloging Policy and Support Office. A recognized expert and mentor on library cataloging, he prepared the Library of Congress's monumental PREMARC Upgrade Manual and headed a project to create preliminary computer records from the massive Library of Congress official card catalog.

At the Library of Congress, he met his wife of 46 years, Jacquelyn (Jacki). They were married in September 1967 in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI. Jacki predeceased him in 2013.

In retirement Jack and Jacki moved first to Bethany Beach and then to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

He leaves to mourn his passing his surrogate son and friend of some 50 years, Zbigniew Kantorosinski, his devoted friend Chris Powers, and a wide circle of cousins including Nancy Marilley, Patricia Rudolph, Gail Ridgell, Jennifer Ann Marilley, and countless friends in Washington, DC, and along the Delaware coast.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 401 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where family and friends can visit from 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Interment to follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 32112 Vines Creek Road, Dagsboro, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
