It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Cameron Reed, who left this world unexpectedly on the evening of September 11, 2024, at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. John was 52 years old.
Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on November 26, 1971, John spent most of his life in Arizona, but created many cherished memories in Illinois. Growing up, John was full of life, boundless energy, and had an unmistakable love for the outdoors. From a young age, he could always be found outside, in constant motion-reveling in the freedom and beauty of nature. Whether standing on a sandy beach or perched on a rock spitting cherry pits across the shore, riding dirt bikes with his family, or wandering through Arizona's state parks with a curved branch in hand, John found his peace under the open sky. The outdoors was not just a place-it was where his spirit felt most alive.
At the age of 20, John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New Hampshire Vermont Mission. His deep love for the gospel was evident, as he cherished studying it and felt the "heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ." His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he always remained "dear to the heart of the Shepherd."
He had an incredible sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a gift for conversation. He went out of his way to help those less fortunate. He loved animals deeply, enjoyed cooking, and delighted in sharing meals with those he loved. John was also an avid lover of music and movies, always finding time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. He was also passionate about architecture, finding joy in its designs and forms.
John was known for his tender heart, boundless love, and the deep relationships he formed with those around him. His greatest love was for his family, and he took immense pride in his children. He adored his sons, Cameron and Harrison Reed, and step-son, Anthony Nieves, and youngest son, Drayven Bitsie. He possessed a unique capacity to love deeply and fully, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his sons, Cameron (Nichole) Reed and Harrison Reed, and Drayven Bitsie; his mother, Judy (Wayne) McPherson; his father, Gary (Roslyn) Reed; his brother, Paul (Cindy) Reed; his sister, Jodie (Jon) Davenport; his step-sister, Heather (Eric) Nelson and step-brother Ryan (Jessica) Christopher; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Clapp (Allen Clapp, deceased); as well as four beloved grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A public graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 7900 E Main St, Mesa, AZ 85207 (near the southwest corner of the cemetery).
