John P. Retterath,76, of West Fargo, passed away, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Bethany Homes in Fargo.
John was born in November 1947 to Pete and Betty Retterath. He grew up in Lidgerwood, ND with four siblings. In 1964, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Niagra Falls Air Force Base. While there, he met Wendy at a USO dance. They married in 1967 and were stationed in Sault Ste Marie, MI. John served in Vietnam for 11 months and was discharged after his service.
After his discharge, John and Wendy moved to Pelican Rapids, MN where their daughter was born. In 1973, John joined the Fargo Police Department. Their son was born 3 years later. The family moved from Fargo to West Fargo where they still resided. John retired from the police department in 2007.
John's first priority was family. He was always available to lend a hand, whether it be a house project or helping take care of grandkids. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandkid's activities and was very proud of all of them. John's other hobbies were riding his Harley, hunting especially with his son and brother, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wendy, his daughter Nikki (Erik), son Chris (Cathy) and grandchildren, Sydney, Madison, Hayden and Audrey. He is also survived by his four siblings, Judi (Darnell), Kathy (Pete), Pat (Cheryl) and Jeannie (Bob) as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was a blue jeans and T-shirt guy. He will be dressed in his Harley gear. Please dress causal for the funeral if you plan to attend.
