Bram Funeral Home - MaryvilleJohn Rhoades, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on Thursday, February 14th, 1935, in Neodesha, Kansas, John lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
John was a resident of Maryville, Missouri, where he made a significant impact as a college professor at Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU). His passion for education and mentorship was evident in his role as a fraternity sponsor for Delta Sigma Phi and as a board member of the Wesley Foundation of Maryville. He also served on the Credit Union Board, contributing to the financial well-being of his community.
A proud veteran, John served in the United States Army as a paratrooper, where he developed a strong sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. His interests were as diverse as they were engaging; he was an avid racquetball player, enjoyed working on race cars and engines, and found joy in hunting, fishing.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Della Rhoades, of the home; his loving daughters, Carla (Bob) Short of Osseo, WI, and Colleen (Matt) Olsen of Olathe, KS; his brother, Leon Rhoades of Osseo, WI; and his sister, Mary (Gary) Bruce of Moville, IA. He was a cherished grandfather to Danielle, Jamy, Samantha (Brandon), Benjamin (Sherry), Andrea (John), and Alexandra (Kevin), and a proud great-grandfather to John, Breanne, Wyatt, William, Jakelynn, Thomas, Maximum, Oakley, and Luna. He also leaves behind a great-great-grandchild, River.
John was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. Rhoades and Grace Rhoades; his son, Norman Rhoades; his brother, Edward Rhoades; and his sister, Grace Ellen Marchant.
A visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, MO, on Friday, January 30th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, Missouri. Pallbearers will include Ed Newbury, Ken Smith, Russ Bredahl, Sid Fannon, Bob Cooper, and Jim Blessington, with Virgil Albertini serving as an honorary pallbearer.
Arrangements are being handled by Bram Funeral Home. John Rhoades will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his students, and his community. His legacy of kindness, wisdom, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
