John H. Richards Jr., 78, of Latrobe, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital. Born April 24, 1947, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John H. Richards Sr. and Dolly L. (Richards) Anderson. John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Stanwood Area Credit Union and served on its Board of Directors. He also served as the Supervisory Committee Chairman at Vasco Federal Credit Union and as a member of the Board of Directors of the PA Credit Union Association. John was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era from December 1965 to January 1969. He enjoyed golfing but most of all loved being with his grandchildren and supporting their events. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Skoloda) Richards; a granddaughter, Christine A. Staschak; and a granddog, Cassie. John is survived by one daughter, Susan C. Staschak (Brad), of Latrobe; one son, Matthew L. Richards (Leslie), of Greensburg; three sisters, Lois Kennedy (Ralph) of Littleton, NC, Bonny Keller (Dan) of Greensburg, and Debra Bennett of Latrobe; he was a loving "Pops" to his four grandchildren, Hailey Staschak, Ava Richards, Brayden Richards, and Kendall Richards; he is also survived by his companion, Lois Jean Mewherter; several nieces and nephews; and his granddog, Piper.
