Funeral services for John Wayne Rider, age 79 of Grayson, will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2025, from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Masters officiating. Mrs. Kay Ellerbe will read the obituary and Donald Masters will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery. The Rider family will receive visitors on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until time of service.
John Wayne Rider was born on December 2, 1945, in Franklin Parish, Louisiana, to the union of his beloved parents, Bill and Barbara Floyd Rider. He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Billy Rider and Larry Rider; two sisters, Bobbie Harrison and Gayle Jenkins; his in-laws, Raymond and Audie Fatheree; and brothers-in-law: Ronnie Fatheree, David Fatheree, Mike Fatheree, and John Fatheree.
John Rider was a friend to all and his word was his bond. He was a cattleman, farmer, businessman, and actually a man of all trades. He also worked for the U S Army Corp of Engineers. He was respected and loved by friends and family alike.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Patricia Fatheree Rider of Grayson; his brother, Gary Rider (Kay) of Urania; two sisters, Cookie Nelson of Columbia and Joyce Jenkins (Alan); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy D. Kenney, Wesley Barnhill, Randy Parker, Billy Wayne Rider, John Walter Rider, Easy Rider, Josh Hendrix and Kevin Nelson. Senior Bearers include: Curtis Perot, Willie Hines, Jimmy Hendrix, Alan Jenkins, Jeff Roberts, David Mabry and Ricky Copeland.
Pat's attending bearers will be Russell Fatheree, Bryan Fatheree, Waylon Hendrix, and Bryan Nelson.
