John Rogale Obituary

John A. Rogale

On July 28, 2025, of Washington Twp. Age 73. Beloved husband of Marie (nee Alessandro). Devoted father of Melanie Rogale (Stephen Kohler) and Elizabeth Rogale (Sean Longfellow). Loving grandfather of John, Jackson, and Victoria. Dear brother of Raymond Davis and Suzanne Toluba. Loved by nieces and nephews.

John was born in Philadelphia, PA where he lived until he lost his mother at age 12. John was lovingly cared for by his half-sister Suzanne until he was enrolled in the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA. While a Hershey Spartan, he played halfback for the football team, donning #41. After high school, John joined the Philadelphia Police Academy Class #218, graduating the youngest in his class. He protected and served the City of Philadelphia for fourteen years until his retirement in 1984.

After his retirement, John and his family moved to Washington Township where he was both a business owner and a civic leader in his community. He ran family-owned video stores, including Video Express #10 on Fries Mill Road. It was at neighboring newsstand, TJ's, that John met a group of men, most notably Val Orsimarsi, who would go on to change his life. Under the mentorship of Val, a political career was born. What started with a Board appointment to the Washington Township Municipal Utilities Authority continued on to a two-term stint on Council, several years spent as Council President. After exiting public office, John served as Chief Legislative Aide to Senator John Mathuessen. He later ran the DMV in Williamstown and eventually joined the Delaware River Port Authority where he served as the Director of Labor Relations until his retirement.

A man who came from nothing, John went on to make a beautiful life for himself and his family. Although he never gave himself the credit he deserved, he was a brilliant strategist, a compelling public speaker and a natural born leader. He spent his life giving others opportunities that he never had and cared for everyone around him right up until he took his last breath.

In his free time, John loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his many dogs. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and vacationing in Disney World. John will be sorely missed by his family, friends and fur babies.

John fought a long but courageous battle against many forms of cancer. We would be remiss if we did not take this opportunity to thank all that cared for him, especially his wonderful nurses and therapists. He made it a point to learn about each and every one of them, including where they lived, how they commuted to work and how much they paid to park.

Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Monday, August 4 th 7:00 – 9:00 PM and Tuesday, August 5 th 9:15 – 10:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 11:00 AM. Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to your local ASPCA.
