The funeral service will follow at 10:00 in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Reverend Lowell Brown and Reverend Monty Clark . John was a very unique individual with many interests.  Some of his passions included playing the harmonica and the guitar, riding a bike, running, dancing, chess, cards, knife throwing, throwing boomerangs, karate, solving rubics cubes, and collecting various lost sports balls from local parks.  He was a dedicated employee at Cannon Mills of Kannapolis for many years till they closed.  He later continued his work at Collins and Aikman in Albemarle and then Norwood.  John was very faithful to attend class reunions, family reunions, church gatherings, and the nutrition center for lunch.  Although John had no children, he felt adopted by the many families who knew and loved him.  He especially enjoyed his teachers at the success center at Stanly Community College who continued to encourage him to "Always better himself."  At SCC, John learned to type.  He typed many novels and several pages of memoirs of his life.  Several years before passing, John began memorizing the book of Psalms.  John truly was an unforgettable individual.

Survivors include nephews, Scott (Donna) Rogers and Glenn (Mika) Rogers; niece, Carla (David) Tucker; and many beloved cousins, great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County & the Uwharrie and also to the Stanly Nutrition Center.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his neighbors and the workers at the Stanly Nutrition Center who gave special attention to John.  And also to the nurses at Hospice of Stanly County  & the Uwharrie for their loving care for John during his last days.
