John Roper Obituary

John Randolph Roper

March 2, 1955 - January 10, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina - John Randolph Roper, born March 2, 1955, passed away on January 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Roper; his daughters, Amy Bode and Laurie Walker; his sons in law, Chris Bode and Nick Walker; his cherished grandchildren, Emily, John, Hannah, and Henry; his sister, Betsy Gaona; and numerous other extended family members who love him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Nancy Roper.

A proud Mason for more than 20 years, John was deeply passionate about his involvement with the Shrine. He strongly believed in the Shrine's mission and charitable work and took great pride in supporting their efforts to help children and families. His commitment to service reflected his generous spirit and heartfelt desire to help others.

John spent his entire life in the Charlotte area. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and later attended Appalachian State University before returning to Charlotte, where he opened his own electrical business, John Roper Electric. Through his work, he formed many lifelong friendships that he cherished greatly.

Outside of his work and charitable service, John found his greatest happiness fishing and spending time with his family. He loved coaching his girls' little league teams, sharing his sense of humor, and simply being present. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his steady, caring presence will be profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, honoring his dedication to their charitable mission.

To celebrate John's life, a funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 115 West 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28203 followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203.

It has been years since I have seen John, but I have fond memories of dealing with him when I was at EDI. He was one of my favorite customers when I worked at the counter and later when I went to inside sales, he would always come and see me when he cam by. Made sure I bought fruit for the band fundraisers from him because he was a hard man to turn down. I never saw him with a cross word for anybody and he always brightened the day. I have thought of him often and regret not staying in touch with him after leaving EDI. My heart goes out to the family and know that John touched many folks and even after many years, he will always be in my heart and mind

I worked with John at Ind-Com electric in the 70´s. I remember him being a great worker and one of the kindest people I ever met.
