John Henry "Chub" Roth, Jr., age 77 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026 in the WV Caring's Hospice Center in Elkins. He was born February 4, 1948 at Columbus, OH, a son of the late John H. Roth, Sr., and Ada Lucille Booth Roth. On November 6, 1966 at Elkins, he was married to Mary Katherine "Kathy" Miles who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Jacqueline Lea "Jackie" Roth Tingler and husband Greg, Julie Susann Roth McCartney and Heather Katherine Roth, all of Elkins; two brothers, James M. "Jim" Roth and Terrill "Ralph" Roth, both of Elkins and one sister, Tamela Sue "Tammy" Kittle of Belington, WV. Four granddaughters, Emily Taylor Smith and Jacob of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sadie Jane McCartney of Pittsburgh, PA, Hannah Katherine Cross and Kaylee of Elkins and Tess Elise McCartney and Alex Walters of Elkins, one great granddaughter, Molly Jane Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC. And several nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Steven Gilbert Roth. Chub graduated from Elkins High School with the Class of 1966 and was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during Vietnam obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He had retired from Mountain Valley Bank where he had worked in the maintenance department and was well-known for his skilled masonry, stonework and was an avid wood worker having made cradles for his granddaughters. Chub was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Chub. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Henry "Chub" Roth. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
