John Rozycki, 82, of Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 7th, 2024. He was welcomed into God's loving embrace from the comfort of his home.
On February 19th, 1942, in Baranówka, Poland, Maria and Marcin Rozycki were blessed with the birth of their youngest child, John (Jan). Post WWII, when John was 3 years old, the family was relocated to Raclawice Slaskie, where he spent his youth. He endured an arduous commute to school in Glogówka, approximately 10 kilometers away, traveling by foot and train. He served as an altar boy at church, diligently focused on his schoolwork, and worked the family farm. At 19 years old, the family moved north, and John helped build their home in Gdynia.
In 1969, John left his homeland by cargo ship and immigrated to New York. In Brooklyn, he met his wife, Irena. They moved to Huntington and later settled in Smithtown, raising their family on Long Island.
John often said he came to this country with nothing and no knowledge of the language, but he worked his way up from sweeping the Chiclets factory floor to becoming a machine shop Foreman / Supervisor first at NY Twist Drill and later for 24 years at Sector Microwave. He retired in 2010, and they moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
John enjoyed playing cards and chess, ushering at church, investing in real estate and stock markets, discussing politics, and watching Fox News. Lifelong he used his skills in construction, electrical work, and plumbing to make home and auto repairs, especially for his daughters. He cherished spending time with his six granddaughters, teaching them all he knew.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, John was a devout Catholic and respected man. He was generous in every aspect of his life and always cared for others before himself. Despite his insecurities with the English language, he was loquacious, often striking up conversations and making jokes, lighting up any atmosphere.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 beautiful years, Irena; his four daughters Betsy (Matthew), Mary-Jean (MJ) (Dave), Alicia (Dan), and Veronica; his granddaughters Olivia (Kyle), Julia (Stephen), Sabrina, Sophia, Soraya, Savanna and his great grandson, Lincoln; his brother Tadeusz (Janina) and brother-in-law Chuck (Pam), as well as nephews Steve (Trish) and Andy (Katie), niece Eva (Steve), and many nephews and cousins in NY and Poland. He is preceded in death by his sister, Janina (Mikolay). John cherished his friends, neighbors, and poker buddies in New York and gained a wonderful community of Polish and American friends in Myrtle Beach.
In lieu of flowers, Mass cards would be appreciated. Please send them to 3043 Bayhaven Drive, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29579.
